Davao Oriental holds the record of having the biggest organically grown root crops in the Philippines for the 5th consecutive years. But this success isn’t just about title, it is more about how the small-scale farmers have found a very effective way to address climate change, hunger and rural poverty. And this is worth celebrating!

Thank you so much SUBANG Foundation, Benedictine Sisters, Davao Oriental State College of Science and Technology, LGU San Isidro, and PCT Davao Oriental of Agro-Eco Philippines for turning this once simple initiative into a tradition.

Organic Crabs in Bislig City and the Vision as Model Organic City in the Philippines by 2020.

11272018-1811. Organic Crabs in Bislig City and the Vision as Model Organic City in the Philippines by 2020.

I visited the more or less 1 hectare Cultured Organic Crabs of Hon. Librado Lib Cubil Navarro of Bislig City, Surigao del Sur. This Local Chief Executive’s local innovation was not visited by the IFOAM Asia 3rd Organic Asia Congress participants last Sept 18-21, 2018 hosted by Bislig City with support from DA (Department of Agriculture) through the RFO 13 of Caraga region and LOAMC-PH.

Mayor Lib leads the.execution of organic aquamarine innovations in Bislig City to support the Bislig City’s vision as “Model City for Organic Agriculture in the Philippines by 2020”.

I am convinced of the cultural management and practices after conversation with trusted person of Mayor Lib. though some experiential-based challenges need to be worked into.

Indeed, the effective societal mainstreaming and institutionalisation of Organic Agriculture Development depends on the mindset of Local Chief Executives (LCEs). This is where the pioneer Mayors/LCEs institutionalised the Loam Phils LOAMC-PH(League of Organic Agriclture Municipalities and Cities in the Philippines) to systematically advance the Family Farms and Municipal-wide institutionalisation of Sustainable Organic Agriculture Development in the PHILIPPINES.

I am with VAC 23 ( Vision Align Circle) on Crabs Production. The VAC members are composed of 8-10 City employees responsible to put in place the support mechanism of the employees to achieve the city’s vision as “Model Organic City in the Philippines by 2020”. This is the mobilisation of Local governance structure for employees to functionally participate on the institutionalisation of societal development agenda.
